Beaten cream kastinys is a traditional Samogitian dish made from sour cream, curdled milk and butter with spices. Kastinys is especially valued for its unique taste and distinctness. It is said that the best kastinys is made with an apple spoon. Samogitian flavoured it with caraway seeds, although it also contains garlic and other herbs. Castings can be festive and daily. Daily is made from butter and curdled milk. Festive kastinys is made of sour cream and butter.
